NDR antenna mast in Hamburg is being dismantled

The old NDR antenna mast in Moorfleet is being dismantled. For decades, it provided the greater Hamburg area with radio and television programming.

For many decades, the mast was the tallest structure in Hamburg with 303 metres. The new mast is already in place—and it is even one meter taller than its predecessor.

Radio Luce activates new transmitter in Bologna

The Italian right-wing Catholic fundamentalist station Radio Luce has activated a new transmitter on 756 kHz in the Bologna area. The station broadcasts a single identification announcement at the start of its daily transmissions at 0700 CET (0600 UTC).

Fabrizio Magrone reported receiving the signal on November 6, 2026, in Forlì, approximately 60 km from the station. Magrone noted that at 0600 UTC, the frequency is obliterated by a 200 kW signal from Radio Romania, requiring the use of a decorrelation function on a Microtelecom Perseus22 SDR receiver to hear the Radio Luce station ID and time signal.

Supporters push for AM Radio mandate before year-end deadline

The National Association of Broadcasters is working to ensure the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act passes the Senate before it expires on Jan. 3. Carrie Healey, chief spokesperson and VP of communications for the NAB, stated the organization is pursuing every path to passage during the lame-duck session while mobilizing listeners through its “Depend on AM” campaign. The legislation currently has 61 co-sponsors in the Senate.

Senator Chuck Grassley told KSCJ(AM) that the mandate could pass via unanimous consent in five minutes if no member objects, or it could be attached to another must-pass legislative package. The Senate is currently facing a crowded agenda with a target final adjournment of Dec. 18.

Canada allocates $300 million to CBC/Radio-Canada

The Canadian federal budget will provide $300 million to CBC/Radio-Canada over the next two years, with $150 million allocated to each of the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 fiscal years. This follows a $150 million allocation in the previous federal budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year to fund CBC News and Radio-Canada Info bureaus. President and CEO Marie-Philippe Bouchard called the funding a “vote of confidence in Canadian creators, including the journalists, actors, producers, podcasters, and radio, TV and film crews, whose work is supported by Canada’s public broadcaster.”

The investment follows plans by CBC News to establish 11 additional local news operations in Saskatchewan, the Yukon, Manitoba, Quebec, British Columbia, and Ontario. CBC/Radio-Canada also detailed plans to expand its international presence by opening or reopening permanent bureaus in Beijing, Jerusalem, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and a European capital, with plans to open a bureau in Africa during a later phase. The nonprofit Friends of Canadian Media welcomed the decision, stating that the investment provides the broadcaster with stability.

AGCOM proposes new rules for hybrid TV and streaming

The Italian regulator AGCOM has opened a consultation regarding an overhaul of television authorisation and channel-numbering rules. The proposals address the integration of digital terrestrial broadcasting with internet-delivered services. Under the draft, viewers would be required to actively choose when moving from DTT into an internet-based service, with an on-screen notice making the transition clear. The plan includes dedicated channel-number ranges: positions 650–699 for local broadcasters offering access to third-party IP services, and positions 950–999 for equivalent national offerings.

The draft specifies at least 24 hours of weekly terrestrial programming, excluding repeats and still images. Application-processing charges are proposed at €9,000 for satellite and other covered linear services and €7,200 for on-demand services. Existing operators would have six months to meet the relevant hybrid-service requirements once the new rules take effect. Interested parties have 45 days from publication to submit responses.

Sky expands Real Time viewing to all Sky Sports channels

Sky has extended its low-latency Real Time viewing option to the entire Sky Sports portfolio on Sky Glass and Sky Stream. The expanded lineup covers channels 920–933, including HD versions of Main Event, Premier League, Football, Sky Sports+, Cricket, Golf, F1, Tennis, News, NFL, Racing, and Mix. Main Event and F1 are also available in UHD Real Time versions.

Customers can use the “Watch in Real Time” button when tuning to a channel or navigate directly to the dedicated numbers. This expansion follows the introduction of Real Time branding in June 2026 and builds on Sky’s earlier Live Sync capability. The feature aims to reduce the delay between live sporting action and its appearance on screen.
