7 Mountains Media adopts DTS AutoStage analytics

7 Mountains Media has begun using the premium tier of DTS AutoStage in-car analytics. Owner and CEO Kristin Cantrell says the tool allows the broadcaster to combine in-car AM/FM listening with first-party data, such as streaming and app usage, to provide real-time insights into how people listen to their stations across 18 markets.

The company has developed an app using AI coding tools to integrate this data with station coverage areas and client locations. Cantrell notes that the analytics, including heatmaps and listener trends, help programmers analyze content and allow salespeople to provide concrete data to clients. The premium data usage began in May, with custom market releases occurring two weeks ago.

Supporters urge Senate passage of AM radio mandate

The National Association of Broadcasters is working to ensure the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act passes the Senate before Jan. 3. Carrie Healey, chief spokesperson and VP of communications for the NAB, stated that the organization is pursuing every available path to Senate passage during the lame-duck session while mobilizing listeners through its “Depend on AM” campaign. The legislation currently has 61 co-sponsors in the Senate.

Senator Chuck Grassley indicated two potential paths for the bill. He expressed hope that it could pass via unanimous consent, which allows passage in five minutes if no member objects. Alternatively, Grassley noted the mandate could be added to another must-pass legislation, such as a rural healthcare bill or a year-end funding package.

Sport1 resumes distribution on Vodafone German cable network

German sports broadcaster Sport1 has resumed distribution via Vodafone Deutschland’s cable network after being unavailable for just over a week, restoring access to around 40% of German households. A Vodafone spokesperson confirmed the reinstatement to DWDL, citing contractual reasons for the interruption and stating that there is a fundamental agreement on continuing the cooperation, so the channel was switched back on for the time being while further discussions are concluded.

The interruption also created difficulties for Sport1’s advertising business, with the broadcaster saying it was in direct contact with advertisers and media agencies to maintain continuity and minimise potential disruption. The return to Vodafone comes at a challenging time for Sport1 and its parent company Highlight Communications. While Süddeutsche Zeitung reported planned redundancies, Sport1 referred to a transformation process intended to strengthen the company’s long-term competitiveness and operational performance.

AGCOM proposes new rules for hybrid TV and streaming

Italian regulator AGCOM has opened a consultation regarding an overhaul of television authorisation and channel-numbering rules. Decision 247/26/CONS proposes new requirements for the integration of digital terrestrial broadcasting and internet-delivered services. Under the draft rules, viewers would be required to actively choose when transitioning from DTT to an internet-based service via an on-screen notice. The proposal includes a logical channel numbering plan reserving positions 650–699 for local broadcasters offering third-party IP services, while positions 950–999 are allocated for national offerings.

The consultation covers DTT, satellite, and online services, distinguishing between broadcasters distributing their own channels and those hosting third-party services. Draft rules specify a minimum of 24 hours of terrestrial programming each week, excluding repeats and still images. Application-processing charges are proposed at €9,000 for satellite and other covered linear services and €7,200 for on-demand services. Interested parties have 45 days from publication to submit responses.
